How it began

Ok, so I should probably start out with my gaming credentials, eh? I started off like many as a wargamer- hooked by a magazine about some game called Warhammer 40,000 at the age of eight. I moved through a fair few of the Games Workshop lines- 40K to Fantasy Battles, to Bloodbowl, to The Lord of the Rings, to Inquisitor, and with a tiny amount of dabbling in Mordheim and Necromunda as well.

It was Inquisitor which I came to last, and yet it was the one that really grabbed me as I started playing it- the large scale models were great, but it was what they represented more than the figurines themselves that held me- here were no longer massive "faceless" armies upon the tabletop, but individuals with personality and unique quirks fighting for a greater motivation than "wipe everything out".

So, I moved into tabletop RPGs. I can't say what my very first RPG was, but after a couple I entered into a Warhammer Fantasy RolePlay (only natural, given my gaming roots) campaign that I'm still playing in to this day-- we began around four years ago.

Given that my roleplaying history is considerably shorter than most, I'm sure many could still classify me as "new blood" or at least "young blood" in the hobby. Nevertheless, I've been a GM for something like three to three and half years-- I couldn't sit by with my creative mind whirring away as other people crafted campaigns around me. With a few successful campaigns under my belt now along with a host of random "one-off" games, and running a couple of campaigns currently, I've long had the urge which most (if not all) GMs come to: creating your own game.

Ever since I first picked up an RPG with the intention of running it I've been customising rules --ignoring peripheral bits and adding replacements or new parts entirely-- and there have been a couple of attempts to making a wholly new game as well, all of them resulting in a complete scrap and an ad-hoc adaption to another system (usually Unisystem).

This time, there shall be no such scrapping- I'm sticking to my proverbial guns and going for it. I'll post the current rules drafts, and relate the game's evolution to its current state in a slew of posts all in good time.
